The Chambers, Taj Lands End

Project type

Hospitality

Date

2022

Location

Mumbai

The design for the Chambers takes hints from the opulent Victorian era where the use of dark stained hardwood and the use of navy blue, burgundy, deep brown, and forest green became prevalent. As one walks through the entrance corridor, century-old pictures of Mumbai evoke a sense of timelessness and continuation. Further into the Chambers, the corridor transforms into a library, symbolic of the knowledge and pride of global achievers. The hardwood panelling in Wenge and colour scheme from the Victorian era are given a modern touch to complement the style of the Hotel where one can see the moulding designs on the walls have a contemporary approach and colours of wallpapers have been carefully chosen to be more vibrant. One can sense opulence in the beautifully curved armrests and cabriole legs set against a Persian carpet design that has been meticulously crafted with intricate floral and animal motifs. The design evokes a feeling of a gentleman's club in the use of colours and architectural elements like the ceiling details, the Venetian louvre panels and the style of artwork display. It gives tribute to its most premium location with a 270-degree view of the Arabian Sea and the Bandra Worli Sea Link in the use of a stone finish which has a gorgeous display of ocean waves naturally set into stone.

The detailing of the Chambers is a fine coming together of architectural details that are more masculine in nature and furniture details that are more feminine, creating a harmonious blend of the formal and the delicate. The design of the Chambers has been delicately woven together in threads from different eras of time and culture and has been carefully put together in a formal setting one would expect of a premium business club at Taj Hotels.
